Abstract A second look is taken at “The Geography of the U.S. in the Year 2,000.” A new interplay is seen of the countervailing pressures to disperse and to agglomerate. Polynucleated urban regions are seen, organized within and around a global poly center. There are certain imperatives: those of demographic cycles and of the economic long wave. These will interact with information-age technologies to change family structures, life styles, and locational preferences. The unexpected also should be expected: “catastrophes” in which existing arrangements are transformed and new structures put into place to replace them. Abstract Increased knowledge of geographic place name vocabulary continues to be important to student academic success. Place knowledge is a vital part of students' learning to be responsible citizens by helping them become more conscious of the world around them and preparing them to enter a global workplace. This study compares computer-assisted to teacher-directed instruction for teaching elementary geographic place name vocabulary. Direct instructional methods can improve student performance with clearly identified student objectives, structured content delivery, and monitoring of progress. Abstract This article addresses the lack of outcome-based research on the integration of technology into pedagogy at the undergraduate college level. It describes a study performed at a Midwestern university, testing the relative effectiveness of paper and electronic topographic maps for teaching map-reading skills, and considers the relationship between learning styles and paper or digital map preference. Results indicate that, although student map skill performance did not differ significantly with the use of paper or electronic maps, students preferred paper maps. Neither their performance nor their preferences were related to learning style. The article discusses the significance of these findings. 相似文献

定量研究植物根系的生长发育及时空分布特征是构建根系吸水模型、计算根系吸水量的基础。选择陇中黄土高原定西安家沟流域为研究区,对研究区内的油松(Pinus tabuliformis)吸水根系空间分布特征进行研究。利用剖面法获取不同空间点上的吸水根系,基于地理信息系统技术估算油松吸水根系的根长密度。结果表明:在水平方向上,油松根长密度呈二次曲线分布,吸水根系主要集中在0~400 cm范围内;在垂直方向上,油松吸水根系呈对数分布,吸水根系主要集中在0~100 cm范围内。并构建了油松吸水根系的二维空间分布方程。 相似文献

科技资源是科技活动的基础,是创造科技成果,推动整个经济和社会发展的要素的集合。利用主成分分析法评价了浙江省各地级市科技资源的存量,并运用ArcView分析了浙江省科技资源的空间分布状况,利用数据包络分析法(DEA)评价了浙江省各地级市的科技资源配置相对效率,利用柯布-道格拉斯生产函数和索洛余值法计算了各个地级市的科技进步对于经济发展的贡献率。结果表明:①浙东北的科技资源及科技进步贡献率都要明显高于浙西南,同时浙东北、浙西南内部也存在着较大的差异。②杭州市、嘉兴市、绍兴市、金华市、舟山市和丽水市科技资源配置效率较高,而宁波市、温州市、湖州市、衢州市和台州市的科技资源配置效率相对较低。 相似文献

This paper re‐examines the effect of green revolution (GR) diffusion on factor/inputs demand in Bangladesh using an empirical model that allows for simultaneous determination of factors influencing adoption of GR technology at the current mature stage, as well as access to irrigation. Results reveal some alignments with conventional wisdom as well as few surprises. For example, while an increased demand for major inputs is expected, an increased demand for organic manure is an unexpected positive outcome. The GR adoption rate is significantly higher in villages with access to irrigation and fertile soils and, surprisingly, in infrastructurally underdeveloped villages. Together with other expected findings of GR technology uptake with higher cereal prices and irrigation use encouraged by access to credit, tenurial status and fertile soils, our findings suggest that investment in irrigation and soil conservation, as well as implementing measures to improve cereal prices and provide agricultural credit, could boost GR technology adoption. 相似文献

Index systems on river health assessment are difficult for using in practice, due to the more complex and professional indicators adopted. In the paper, some key indicators which can be applied for river health assessment in general were selected, based on the analysis of 45 assessment index systems with 902 variables within around 150 published papers and documents in 1972-2010. According to the fields covered by the variables, they were divided into four groups: habitat condition, water environment, biotic status and water utilization. The adopted number and the accepted degrees in the above systems of each indicator were calculated after the variables were combined into the indicators, some of the widely accepted indicators which can reflect different aspects of river condition were selected as key indicators in candidate. Under the correlation analysis amongst the key indicators in candidate, 8 indicators were finally suggested as the key indicators for assessing river health, which were: coverage rate of riparian vegetation, reserved rate of wetland, river continuity, the changing rate of water flow, the ratio of reaching water quality standard, fish index of biotic integrity, the ratio of water utilization and land use. 相似文献

2005年7月27日中国气象局和交通部联合签署了《共同开展公路交通气象监测预报预警工作备忘录》。随着该《备忘录》的签署,深圳市气象局积极响应,着手研究交通天气预报技术和方法,并于2006年9月28日正式开展了深圳市长途交通专题天气预报。为了达到交通预报制作图文并茂且节省人力的目的,采用B/S(Browser/Server)架构,对原C/S结构的交通预报制作系统进行了改进和升级,该系统使用PHP语言作为开发语言,并使用MYSQL作为数据库驱动。升级后的系统平台具有简洁、易于操作、安全性高、自动化程度较高和维护和升级简单的特点。 相似文献
